The Student Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Fort Hare in the Eastern Cape has called on the institution’s authorities to speedily solve students’ financial problems on the Alice and East London campuses.
SRC president, Aphelele Khalakahla, says those that owe the university have still not registered.
Higher Education Minister Doctor Nobuhle Nkabane, is currently visiting the institution to assess the state of readiness for the current academic year.
Khalakahla says more than 2 000 students are not funded.
“The classes have commenced but there are students who are not yet registered. Those students include a painful thing where students are not given concession to register and complete their studies. There are students who are left with one module from PGCE to just complete and go change their homes and their backgrounds.”
