Two of the favourites for the women’s singles title at the Australian Open in Melbourne have continued their good form and advanced to the third round of this year’s first Grand Slam tennis tournament.
Second seed and five-time Grand Slam champion, Iga Swiatek of Poland, beat Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia 6-0, 6-2 in an hour to set up a third-round clash against former United States (US) Open champion, Britain’s Emma Raducanu.
Kazakhstan’s sixth seed, Elena Rybakina, also had an easy passage into the next round courtesy of a 6-love, 6-3 victory over American Iva Jovic.
In the men’s singles, fourth-seeded American, Taylor Fritz, dropped just three games in disposing of qualifier Cristian Garin of Chile in their second round match.
