Suspended officer backs ‘Cat’ Matlala’s claims about meeting with KZN SAPS head Mkhwanazi

A witness before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee looking into concerns around national security, suspended police sergeant Samkeliso Mlotshwa has backed-up Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala about the existence of a meeting between Matlala and KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Last year, Matlala told the committee that he met with Mkhwanazi in a hotel in Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. Mlotshwa is testifying before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee as part of the public submission requirement.

He also accused National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola of failing to act against Mkhwanazi on the allegations of torture.

“It was part of the discussions in the famous meeting between Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, Major General Senona and General Mkhwanazi. And General Masemola has failed to execute his duties in disciplining General Mkhwanazi because he was part of the people who assaulted and tortured us on the 9th of December. He has appointed Major-General Bookers to head the disciplinary proceedings of the members of the DPCI (Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation) which include Major General Senona. I forget the name of the brigadier.”
