Suspects from Cape Flats arrested for illegal firearms and ammunition

Two suspects, including a 49-year-old woman, have been arrested in Lavender Hill on the Cape Flats on charges of the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk says members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit followed up on information about the location of a firearm.

Van Wyk says members arrived at an address in the area and found a 35-year-old male who is affiliated to a local gang in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

“Further information led the team to the location of another firearm at a premises in Constitution Court, Lavender Hill.

The information led to the arrest of an unlawful possession of a chrome Browning 7.65mm Pistol with 12 7.65mm rounds of ammunition.”

Meanwhile, members who performed tracing operations recovered fifteen 9mm rounds of ammunition which were found abandoned on the staircase near a premises in Shepard Court, Lavender Hill.

No one was arrested.

Once charged, the suspects are expected at in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
