Suspected rapist burnt to death in mob justice attack in Limpopo

A suspected rapist has been burnt to death in a mob attack at Tshalovha village outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo for allegedly trying to rape an elderly woman.

Police officers who arrived on the scene found the suspect’s naked body on the ground with burn wounds.

Community members set him alight after the elderly woman screamed for help.

The deceased has been positively identified by his next-of-kin.

“The police were informed about the incident that was ongoing at Lwamondo, Tshalovha village and rushed to the area. On their arrival at the scene, they found a male victim lying on the ground with severe burn wounds on his body without any clothes and nobody at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was allegedly found in a one roomed house when he attempted to rape an elderly woman who screamed for assistance. The members of the community assembled and found the deceased naked. The deceased estimated to be in his mid-thirties was taken outside the house and burned to death on the street,” says SAPS provincial spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba.
