Suspect nabbed in Eersterust murder, no link yet to burnt bodies

Gauteng police investigating the murders of women discovered between Watloo and Denneboom, east of Pretoria, say the suspect arrested in connection with the discovery of a fifth body is not yet linked to the matter relating to the four burnt bodies.

Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says they’re still investigating the possibility. Muridili says the suspect was arrested in Polokwane early yesterday morning in connection with the separate murder case in Eersterust, also east of the city.

According to Muridili, the team of investigators established to probe the four murders in Tshwane discovered a woman’s body in a shallow grave at an open field along Swartberg Street in Eersterust last Thursday.

The woman was reported missing at the Sunnyside police station on the 4th of July this year.

Muridili says investigations led to the identification of a possible suspect, and their swift action led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man at a residence in Polokwane in the early hours of Monday morning.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
