The suspect in the murder of a Walter Sisulu University (WSU) student, believed to be the residence manager is expected to appear at Mthatha Magistrates’ court today.

The 54-year-old man is facing charges of murder and attempted murder.

Last week’s student protest resulted to the shooting incident that claimed one life and injury of other students.

The suspect is alleged to have randomly shot at the group of students that were protesting outside his home within the campus.

This prompted Higher Education Minister, Nobuhle Nkabane’s visit to the institution.

However, shortly after her visit the situation worsened when the confrontation between students and security personnel erupted.

Rubber bullets and teargas were used to disperse the students.

WSU students are also expected to be in attendance.
