A person being arrested
A suspect accused of fatally shooting a Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) superintendent on the N2 near Groutville, north of Durban, has been arrested following a multidisciplinary police operation early Monday morning.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the 27-year-old suspect allegedly robbed a taxi driver and passengers and shot the traffic officer who approached the vehicle due to improper parking on the roadside.
“Intensive police investigations led the investigating team to Thubelihle informal settlement in Melmoth where the suspect was arrested. Follow-up investigations directed the police to the suspect’s residence at an informal settlement in KwaMashu, where the murder weapon with a filed-off serial number was recovered, along with 32 rounds of ammunition,” Netshiunda says.
The suspect, 27, will appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He is also scheduled to appear the same day in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder, carjacking and armed robbery.
