A breakthrough has been made in the murder of Marius Van Der Merwe, also known as Witness D in the Madlanga Commission.
Police have confirmed that the suspect believed to be the shooter of Van der Merwe has been arrested in Johannesburg.
Police say the vehicle believed to have been used on the day that Witness D was murdered has also been seized.
The suspect is expected to make his first appearance before the Brakpan Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The team that was established by General Fanie Masemola, on instruction by the President, took over investigations shortly after they were appointed.

Van der Merwe, a former Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department officer was shot and killed in a suspected assassination in December.
He was gunned down in front of his family shortly after testifying about corruption and a murder cover-up involving high-ranking EMPD officials.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says, “The suspect believed to be the one who allegedly shot and killed Witness D was arrested in Johannesburg. The team is still on the ground where they are busy with the search and seizure operation and various identified addresses of the suspect. The vehicle believed to have been used on the day that Witness D was murdered has also been seized.
