A 62-year-old man suspected of raping a 37 year old woman in January 2025 is appearing at the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court, outside Lebowakgomo in Limpopo.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says the man found the woman walking at Makotse village and threatened her with a knife before raping her.
The man was arrested on Wednesday in Mokopane.
Mashaba says the suspect was found in possession of a firearm during the arrest.
“Upon further investigations and DNA forensic analysis involving rape of a 37 year old female victim, an elderly male who was unknown during the incident was subsequently positively linked with the offence. On Wednesday, 07 January 2026, Lebowakgomo FCS conducted an operation and successfully managed to trace and locate the suspect who was eventually arrested at Mokopane policing area.”
