Substitute Home Affairs mobile offices set up around Germiston

Home Affairs Deputy Minister, Njabulo Nzuza says that they have set up four mobile offices around the Germiston area, east of Johannesburg, after their main office in the CBD was torched yesterday.

The Home Affairs office was allegedly set alight by angry residents of the Pharoe Park flats, in Ekurhuleni, after the City of Ekurhuleni obtained a court order to evict non-paying residents who were deemed to be unlawfully occupying the property.

Nzuza is visiting the scene of the burnt building this afternoon.

“Some of our citizens can go to the Alberton office, they will be serviced there, and as of today, we have set up four mobile units at the civic centre and the staff that was working here will be in areas where they will see more volumes because 500 people who were coming here will be redirected. 100 people will go to Alberton and others to mobile units. These are the interventions we did to make sure the work continues and that we are happy we have the mobile fleet,” says Nzuza.

He says he is talking to the Public Works Department to determine if a new office would need to be acquired in Germiston, east of Johannesburg.

Nzuza says his main priority is to ensure that clients receive services.

“We are already in discussion with Public Works. Public Works acquires buildings for all government departments and they will advise the best option whether it is to renovate the building and I’m sure the lease had two years remaining, therefore they will advise us and we must just make sure that we service the clients,” adds Nzuza.
