Fire crews working to combat raging fires in the area.
The wind has picked up around Nelson Mandela Bay and Kouga municipalities in the Eastern Cape leading to flare-ups once again.
Fires around Wedgewood Golf Estate and parts of the old Cape Road in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro are being extinguished, while firefighters in the Kouga Municipality are battling two big flare-ups on Oyster Bay Road and Kabeljouws River.
Both municipalities have assured residents that the fires are not out of control.
Johan Cloete of the Van Stadens River Fire Protection Association says the fire on old Cape Road picked up Sunday afternoon.
“We have to drive far to access water and to fill up our fire units and that’s quite an issue and the hot weather does not make life easier across the road there is an informal settlement, if wind would change, the fire would burn directly to that informal settlement and that would be a big problem, there are houses in the fire line right now and houses on the other side, we have removed the livestock we are trying to stop the fire from spreading any further,” adds Cloete.
