Anti-Apartheid activist, Steve Biko.
The inquest into the death of Black Consciousness Leader Steve Bantu Biko has been adjourned to the 4th of March by the Gqeberha High Court in the Eastern Cape.
The postponement is to sort out legal representation for both persons of interest in the inquest.
The reopened inquest seeks to re-examine Biko’s death in police custody in 1977 and determine whether anyone can be held criminally responsible after a previous inquest in 1978 cleared apartheid police of any wrongdoing.
The two former apartheid police officers have applied for the state to fund their legal representatives, which must be confirmed before the inquest proceeds.
