State withdraws theft charges against SAFA’s Jordaan, Hluyo

The State has withdrawn theft charges against South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan and one of his co-accused, SAFA Chief Financial Officer, Gronie Hluyo.

But both of them are still charged with three counts of fraud and one of conspiracy to commit fraud.

The two, along with public relations company boss, Trevor Neethling, appeared in the Johannesburg Serious Commercial Crimes Court at Palm Ridge on Friday morning.

They are accused of using SAFA funds for purposes of protecting Jordaan’s personal image following allegations of rape and for alleged personal protection services.

The alleged fraud amounts to approximately R1.3 million.

The case has been postponed to the 19 August after Jordaan’s defence team indicated that they have approached the High Court to challenge an earlier ruling, dismissing their application to have the matter struck off the roll.
