State says relying on circumstantial evidence regarding siblings in Phala Phala robbery

The state in the Phala Phala farm theft trial has told the Modimolle Regional Court in Limpopo that it is relying on circumstantial evidence regarding Joseph siblings.

Three accused, Imanuwela David, and siblings Floriana Joseph and Ndilinasho Joseph, are on trial for theft, conspiracy to commit theft, house breaking and money laundering related to the theft of $580 000 from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farm in Bela Bela in February 2020.

State representative Nkhetheni Munyai says there is insufficient evidence linking the Joseph siblings to the farm on the day in question.

“The state did not provide evidence to show that accused number two had personal knowledge of the dollars at the house; and the evidence does not suggest that she was there during the period the money was there at the time the theft occurred at the farm. However, the state relies on circumstantial evidence, this is the result of the knowledge that she might have (been there).”
