State links Modack to Killian in plot to track slain cop Kinnear

The state is meticulously continuing with its case to prove the relationship between alleged underworld figure, Nafiz Modack and his co-accused, Zane Killian.

Earlier, the prosecution put it to Modack that he had enlisted the services of Killian to ping the phone and location of anti-gang unit member, Charl Kinnear, to have the top cop killed.

Modack says he used Killian’s services to ping Kinnear and alleged gang boss, Jerome Booysen, to find out when they were together to prove corruption and illegal activities.

Modack and 14 co-accused face over a hundred charges, including murder, attempted murder, running a criminal enterprise and money laundering.

Earlier, Modack contradicted himself in court, saying he had enlisted Killian’s services on the 17th of June in 2020.

However, he later conceded that he may have contacted Killian as early as March that year.

State Advocate, Greg Wolmarans, says Modack tracked the movement of Kinnear.

“Look at that, as we go to the 15th of May, al wat jy sien geel. Just one yellow ping after the next. That’s right, my lord, it is quite clear that Kinnear was being pinged not to compare his location to that of Booysen, but he was pinged to track his movement.”

Modack: I can’t answer that my lord, I have never done the pinging.
