State highlights contradictions in Zungu’s testimony in Meyiwa trial

The state in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial says there are clear contradictions between the testimony of Makhosonke Zungu and that of other defence witnesses.

Zungu is expected back on the stand at the High Court in Pretoria, where five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.

Zungu has refuted claims by key state witness Constable Sizwe Zungu that he was at the Basotho hostel in Vosloorus the day Meyiwa was murdered.

He also claimed he only met Constable Zungu in 2015; however, he admitted they are related.

State prosecutor, Dr Ronnie Sibanda, told the court that several versions presented by the defence do not align, describing them as deliberate lies.

Sibanda: If you put a preposition that in 2014, you were not employed. What would you say?

Makhosonke: That is not the truth.

Sibanda: Can I put it, as saying, that person is lying?

Makhosonke: Yeah, yeah, yes.

Sibanda: You have not had any contact or you were not in a regular contact or communication? Gwabini said that there was no contact or no communication between yourself and Gwabini. What will be your comment? Can I put it as high as in that person is lying?

Zungu: Yes, according to me, that would be lies that there was no contact.

Sibanda: Mr. S.G. Zungu, Yes, because there was no communication or contact between myself and Makhosonke Zungu. When I see Makhosonke, I will see him back at home. This is the second lie that we’ve detected myself and yourself.
