The State in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has wrapped up its case in the High Court in Pretoria. Five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain, who was shot and killed in Vosloorus on Gauteng’s East Rand.
Meyiwa was at his former girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s mother’s home at the time. Khumalo has been named as the alleged mastermind behind Meyiwa’s murder.
State prosecutor George Baloyi says while their case has been concluded, the defence is at liberty to call any of the witnesses who were not called in to testify.
“On that point, my lord, that concludes the leading of the evidence for the state, and we close the state case. It’s precisely three years since the state started leading evidence, and the state now formally closes, closes its case. The law is very clear that any witness not called by the state is at the disposal of the defence. We make all witnesses who haven’t been called to testify. We make them available to the disposal of the defence.”

Meanwhile, the Presiding Judge in the Meyiwa trial, Ratha Mokgoatlheng has upheld the order for accused number five, Fisokuhle Ntuli, to be transferred from Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria to Leeuwkop Prison, north of Johannesburg.
This follows a plea from the Correctional Services Department at the High Court in Pretoria to keep Ntuli at Kgosi Mampuru.
Ntuli told the court he was being tortured and denied blankets at the facility’s C-Maximum security section.
While the department has committed to bring the accused to court on time, Mokgoatlheng advised that they submit a formal application if they wish to have the order overturned.
“Okay, fine, everybody. You know what? I’m going to leave the order as it stands. You can bring an application for recession, okay, no problem.”
