Inside the High Court in Pretoria where the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is taking place.
The state in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has argued that the statement by defence witness, Sifiso Gwabini Zungu, needs to be interrogated to get to the truth.
The High Court in Pretoria is hearing arguments on the admissibility of the statement by Zungu – following numerous interruptions this week.
Zungu – who is not in court today due to medical reasons – is alleged to have hosted a gathering at a hostel where the five accused were seen the day Meyiwa was murdered in October 2014.
State prosecutor, George Baloyi, says Gwabini’s statement is central to the case.
“Mr. Sifiso Gwabini Zungu does not deny telling the police that he told them – (Brigadier Gininda and Sgt. Mogola) – to bring over what accused number one, Muzi, had written. We therefore make a submission that he should be cross examined to see if the statement indeed contains these assertions. We submit to arrive at the truth in this matter, it’s important that the statement of Mr. Gwabini Zungu be interrogated with the evidence that he has given in court.”
