The financial sustainability of the ANC will be a major issue the party will tackle post the National General Council (NGC) taking place in Johannesburg this week.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula conceded that the stability of the party’s purse continues to be a big challenge it needs to overcome, if it is to successfully renew itself.
“The ANC is massive. Our bill of salaries only, without added other ingredients, is R20-million per month. And then you must look at Luthuli House and look at other parties. So, to sustain the ANC, it needs a lot of resources. And this is what we need to address as an organisation. We are the only political party in this country that exists in every world in South Africa. We may not have branches, but we do have interim structures everywhere.”
