They are accusing the city of failing to maintain its water drainage infrastructure and sewer pipes.

Residents claim the poor maintenance resulted in flooding during Sunday heavy rains.
Business owner and local resident, Logan Naidu says, “The municipality is dumping sewage, blocking the storm water drains, and the sewage is flowing into the Umngeni River and thereafter into the Blue Lagoon, where people are swimming. We have complained several times to the municipality since 2021. They even sent us an email stating that the municipality is refusing to comply and threatening to open a criminal case. However, since 2021, they have done nothing. Every time it is rains, we experience flooding. We are suffering damages to our businesses and I run four businesses here.”
