Springboks smash Barbarians 54-7 in international season kick-off

Reigning World Cup champions, South Africa, have started their 2025 international season with their first win over the Barbarians in 25 years.

The Springboks beat the star-studded invitational side 54-7 at a wet and cold Cape Town Stadium.

They were surprisingly accurate in most departments given the conditions and the fact that this was their first outing in more than seven months.

Lock Lood de Jager celebrated his return to the green and gold for the first time in almost two years with a performance worthy of the man-of-the-match award, and a try.

The Springboks scored eight tries in total and led 19-nil at half time. The four-time world champions next play Italy, with the first of the two test matches taking place at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria next Saturday.
