Springbok’s Kolbe set to make history against world’s best

Springbok winger Cheslin Kolbe says he appreciates the thought of making history at Eden Park in Auckland, but says he is more interested in testing himself against the best team in the world when South Africa meets New Zealand in round three of the Rugby Championships.

The number one-ranked All Blacks will host the number two-ranked Boks in a fixture where the rankings are becoming increasingly more important as the draw for the 2027 Rugby World Cup nears in December.

Kolbe says it is more of a motivating factor than having the potential to rewrite history.

“We are playing against the number one team currently at the moment and that’s what you want to come up against and measure yourself as an individual and as a team, where you are at, and if you are still on par. I’m definitely excited, and I have not played at Eden Park before, but I have heard a lot of great talks and memories that have been there, so I am super excited if that opportunity does come this coming weekend.”
