Springbok coach, Rassie Erasmus.
The Springboks are bracing for a step up in physicality and competitiveness when they defend their Rugby Championship title in a few weeks time.
Coach Rassie Erasmus says the Springboks’ meticulous planning is precisely to bridge the gap between tests against Italy and Georgia and being absolutely ready for their opponents in the Rugby Championship.
The first Rugby Championship test is against Australia in mid-August, and Erasmus says he always expected the Wallabies to bounce back from a couple of flat years.
“The first four matches we played were always going to be not as tough as the Rugby Championship … not saying in anyway that Italy and those guys weren’t going to bring it physically. But I just think where we were compared to them in terms of developing and playing as a team, we have been together for quite a while and we know that it would be physical against those guys. But we will now go against teams that are physical have a good game plan [and] really good coaches,” explains Erasmus.
