Special Crimes Investigator describes Matlala as a dangerous man

Special Crimes Investigator Mike Bolhuis has described Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala as a dangerous individual.

Matlala has been facing public scrutiny for his alleged connections with high level police officials, and his dubious tender dealings.

He came on the radar when murdered whistle blower Babita Deokaran flagged his shell companies for possible fraudulent activities at the Tembisa Hospital.

His company was also awarded a R36-million tender by the police in June last year – which was later revoked.

He is currently behind bars on charges of attempted murder, money laundering and conspiracy to commit murder.

Bulhuis says Matlala’s reign of terror is far from over.

“Vusi is an extremely dangerous man and also a very important man for those involved with organised crime. Especially for those in government and senior police officials. He will commit the dirty work he is operating, funding and in cahoots with Boko Haram [Extortion syndicates in Mamelodi] and I would say those in the taxi industry. The hit men and the gangsters,” explains Bulhuis.

Civil Movement – Defend Our Democracy says the ability for Matlala to bag tenders from the state over the years reveals the depth of corruption.

Defend our Democracy Executive Director, Naledi Kuali, says it is shocking that Matlala managed to benefit from taxpayers’ money.

“Those tenders still being given out in the manner that they were given out speak to deep rooted corruption. Because when you follow due process and investigate who the individual is, you find the number of investigations that there are allegations that have been made that are damning … that would require at the very least a state institution to distance themselves from it. So why was he given tenders?”
