Soweto councillor urges SAPS to counsel officers after fatal shooting

Protea Glen ward 135 councillor in Soweto Phelelani Sindani has urged the police to provide its officers with counselling after a female officer was shot and killed by her police captain ex-boyfriend in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Sindani says the incidents of police brutally killing their partners is escalating at an alarming rate. The ward councillor says this is robbing the public of officers who serve their communities with integrity.

“If such atrocities continue unbated it creates instability in a ward so we are appealing to the SAPS and the law enforcement agencies to talk to their staff and find out if there’s anything they can do to help. It can be with problems at home-based on relationships or work and this will help prevent the scourge we are currently dealing with.”
