SONA provided no progress updates: Malema

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa for delivering his 8th State of the Nation Address (SONA) as if it were his first.

He says Ramaphosa failed to provide any updates on progress made over the years. Malema was speaking during Parliament’s debate of the SONA in Cape Town.

He says in 2018, Ramaphosa promised to focus on rebuilding the country, however, he claims that nothing has been accomplished to date.

“In 2021, you declared it the year of recovery, yet South Africa’s economy deteriorated further, with economic growth falling below one percent, except for the brief rebound which collapsed almost immediately. In 2022, you claimed you will address governance failures, yet corruption became one of the biggest issues under your leadership and that corruption has found its way now into the judiciary. We never had a crisis of corruption in the judiciary, it only started with you when you sailed the CR17 documents in court.”
