KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Violence monitor in KwaZulu-Natal Mary De Haas has accused the Provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of being captured by the police minister from the previous administration.
This follows yesterday’s press briefing where Mkhwanazi claimed that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has connections to members of a crime syndicate.
He alleged that these criminal syndicates have infiltrated the country’s criminal justice system.
He also accused some senior police officials of being involved in corruption. De Haas says Mkhwanazi’s conduct was unprecedented, citing that complaints should be directed to Parliament rather than being aired in the media.
She says there must someone behind Mkhwanazi’s actions.
“I’m actually very disappointed in him because a few years ago he seemed to be on the right track, he did a couple of good things. I think he got completely captured by last minister. And I’m asking myself who is pulling the strings, who orchestrated all of this and got him on to this platform. I don’t think he did, I think it’s probably the very syndicates that are using him themselves.”
