Some truck drivers at the Beitbridge Border Post in Musina, Limpopo have expressed frustration with the long queues at border crossings.

The Beitbridge Port of Entry has been experiencing commercial traffic delays as trucks are re-directed from the Groblers Bridge Port of Entry between South Africa and Botswana.

Operations at Groblers Bridge in Lephalale have been suspended since last week due to flood damage after heavy rains.

Some truck drivers say they wait for as long as 24 hours to cross into Zimbabwe.

“ Since yesterday, we have been pushing the queue. The queue is not moving at all. I don’t know if there is anything we can do about it, I am from Johannesburg and I’m going to Zambia,” says one of the truck drivers.

Another truck driver says,” I have been here since yesterday. It’s just that we have been busy preparing the paperwork with the agents but the queue is not much long. It’s just that we are waiting for the papers in order to proceed to the other side.”

Border Management Authority’s spokesperson, Peter Mphilo says repair work at Groblers Bridge Border Post will take about six days to complete.

“The key activities in the project plan include the repairing of identified damages to the port infrastructure. Water quantity tests will also need to be conducted to ensure the environment is safe for operations. The water underground will need to be allowed to be completely dry, in order to carry the weight of the cargo trucks that pass through the ports. It is anticipated that the repairs and restoration process will take approximately six days to complete.”
