Some of my business dealings were unethical but not unlawful: Matlala

Businessman and alleged criminal cartel kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has refuted statements that his business empire has been achieved through unlawful means.

Matlala however, admitted that some of his businesses can be described as unethical but not unlawful.

He was grilled by evidence leader, Advocate Norman Arendse.

“I have got letters here. I don’t think you have got these statements. But I will share them with you. But I have been sending letters demanding that I am not being paid. Why am I not getting any work anymore? So, this thing is frustrating. So, this is out of frustration? You pursuit lawful avenues to have whatever is left in your contract to have that unblocked by whatever was blocking you. So, you would rather to get involved to unlawful activities to unlock it. I would say it was not unlawful at that time. I would say it unethical.”

Meanwhile earlier, Matlala accused police of manipulating evidence in his cellphone. He says this is in order to plant evidence on it.

“The attempted murder has nothing to do with these messages. Why do you think they will go to all this extent to manipulate your phone? They did it to plant evidence. And I am assuming SC you will tell us which is this evident you believe has been planted in your phone? Yes.”
