Social grants not affected by Postbank, SASSA contract termination

Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe has given an assurance that social grant payments will not be affected by the termination of the master service agreement between SASSA and Postbank.

The Minister emphasized that social grant payments will be deposited directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts, including those who bank with Postbank.

The reassurance comes as SASSA’s agreement with Postbank is set to expire on  September 30, 2025.

Appearing before the Standing Committee on Social Development in Parliament, Minister Tolashe says the department will work with the Reserve Bank to ensure that regulatory compliance is upheld.

“The termination of the MSA is a contractual agreement to terminate the agreement that no longer serves the purpose for which it was intended.  Postbank remains a fully licenced and operational financial institution, and beneficiaries will continue to receive their payments in their Post Bank accounts just as they did before.  No change in this regard will occur.”
