A fire that started in the Slanghoek Valley in the Boland yesterday has been contained.

Cape Winelands District Municipality spokesperson Anesca Roodt says teams were deployed to fight the fire that ignited behind a farm school.

The blaze quickly spread through dense vegetation towards Goudini.

Roodt says the teams will remain on site to monitor the situation.

She says, “Strong winds fanned the fire and hindered firefighting efforts. Fortunately, the winds subsided, and cooler weather conditions during the night helped in containing the fire. The fire was confined to the mountain area, and aside from damage to a storage structure, no other properties were affected. There have been no injuries reported.”
