Six suspects arrested for 2018 procurement fraud and theft at Kusile

Six suspects have been arrested in connection to a 2018 procurement fraud and theft at Kusile Power Station in Mpumalanga.

They were arrested by the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure in collaboration with the Mission Area Joint Operational Centre.

The suspects include two current employees at Kusile and one former employee.

Police spokesperson, Nonkululeko Phokane elaborates on the arrests.

“The investigation has revealed that a pump was procured twice in 2015 and in 2018 with the same unique number amounting to 100s of thousands of rands as loss to Eskom. To date, two suspect were arrested at Kusile Power Station, including a procurement officer. They were apprehended at the port of entry on Friday 14 March attempting to leave the country and in the early hours of this morning, four additional suspects were arrested including a former procurement manager and an end user. During the operation police seized a handgun, rifle, ammunition, a laptop and cell phones. The suspect will appear in court at eMalahleni Magistrate’s on Monday 17 March 2025.”
