The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has initiated an investigation into alleged misadministration in the City of Mbombela Municipality in Mpumalanga.
This after the SIU announced that it has received authorisation from President Cyril Ramaphosa to probe maladministration of about seven tenders within the municipality dated between February and May 2025.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed a new proclamation authorising the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate allegations of maladministration in Mbombela Local Municipality, Mpumalanga Province’s affairs and recover any losses the State suffered.

The tenders include those for housing, appointment of consultants, construction and legal services.
The investigation aims to recover any losses incurred by the municipality or state.
SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago elaborates on some of the tenders in question.
“Tender three relates to engineering services. Tender four is for the construction related goods and services in respect of the R538 Hazyview to Numbi Gate Turnoff Project. Tender number five is relating to the appointment of professional consultants for the establishment of the Strategic Programmes and Projects Support Unit for the municipality.”
“Tender six is in relation to Turnkey Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management Programme. Tender seven is in relation to the implementation of the construction of phase one of the Nsikazi North Bulk Water Scheme,” explains Kganyago.
