Shivambu successor should unite MK Party: Analyst

Political analyst Levy Ndou believes that the candidate to succeed Floyd Shivambu as the Secretary-General is one that should be able to unite the party.

Since its inception, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has been rocked by leadership changes, with Shivambu being the latest to be redeployed to Parliament, six months after his appointment as secretary-general.

Shivambu will now occupy a seat as an ordinary Member of Parliament (MP) for the MK Party.

Ndou says Shivambu’s successor must be able to work closely with party President Jacob Zuma.

“The MK Party, in my view, would not need an ordinary person to fill the office of the secretary-general. They will need someone who will be having a lot of energy to organize and ensure that they’ve got very strong structures, not only in KwaZulu-Natal but also outside the province of KwaZulu-Natal. They need to ensure that they appoint someone who will be able to bring all the different structures of the MK Party together and ensure that there’s unity and cohesion in the MK Party.”
