Suspended SAPS head of organised Crime, General Richard Shibiri testifying before the Commission.
Suspended organised crime head Major-General Richard Shibiri has alleged that Witness A, who has implicated him at the Madlanga Commission, was promised a promotion in exchange for adverse information against him.
Witness A had previously testified that General Shibiri had tried to interfere in the investigation into the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.
Swart was gunned down in April 2024.
Shibiri has told the Commission that Witness A has since been promoted to the position of Warrant Officer.
He is facing cross-examination at the Commission in Pretoria.
“I have since noted from supplementary witness statements submitted by Witness A that he presently holds the rank of Warrant Officer. It appears that until as recently as 3 March 2026, Witness A held the rank of Sergeant. [But] he has since been promoted. I wish to state clearly that I do not begrudge any member of South Africa’s Police Service legitimate career progression,” he explained.
