Limpopo musician, Lehlogonolo Chauke’s, popularly known by his stage name Shebe Maburna, bail hearing has been postponed to Monday next week by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
The hearing has been postponed for the defence lawyers to present their closing arguments.
Shebe Maburna is facing several counts of attempted murder, assault and possession of illegal firearm amongst others.
The court started with the re-examination of the state witness, investigating officer Phaladi Makola. Makola was being re-examined by the state after his cross examination by defence lawyer Lot Ramusi.
On Wednesday, Makola accused the defence lawyer Ramusi of interfering with police investigations.
He also told court that the accused is known to openly boast online that he can commit over 60 offences in a month.
Makola also told the court that he has evidence in a form of video that proves that Shebe Maburna allegedly fired a shot at his fan in Ladanna, Polokwane.
After the re-examination was concluded, another defence lawyer Advocate Isaac Mokgopo started with his closing arguments. He told court that Shebe Maburna will not evade trial should he be released on bail.
“It is also our submission on this point that there’s no evidence before this honourable court that the applicant’s release will undermine or jeopardise the proper functioning of the criminal justice system. The State failed to provide this honourable court with either any documents or any proof that when the applicant was released on bail relating to other alleged matters, he either tried by all means to evade trial.”
Advocate Mokgopo also told court that the accused is a law-abiding citizen.
“The investigative officer before this honourable court indicated that there are two individuals who are fugitives. The other one in Malawi. The other one was arrested in Tanzania. Your worship, we do not intend to dwell on the cases that relate to those two individuals. We have competent police officers that can even go to another country to bring back a fugitive. Therefore, that is not a reason for this honourable court to deny the applicant his release on bail.”
Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi has expressed concern about the defence lawyers’ late arrival in court.
“ Perhaps we should also agree on time, because we are always start late. The defence arrives late. Monday what time?. Having said that the case is remanded to Monday the 15th of December 2025 for further bail hearing.”
