Severe weather forces closure of Pafuri, Giriyondo border posts

Severe weather conditions have forced the temporary closure of the Pafuri and Giriyondo Border Posts in the Kruger National Park (KNP), following a Level 6 severe weather warning issued for parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

The Border Management Authority made the decision amid relentless heavy rainfall across the park, urging all affected visitors to adjust travel plans.

The safety of visitors, staff, and surrounding communities remains SANParks’ highest priority,” reads a statement from KNP.

SANParks says rivers including the De Laporte, N’watshitsaka, Crocodile, and Sabie are experiencing rapidly rising water levels, with potential impacts on key routes between Satara, Tshokwane, Lower Sabie, and Skukuza Rest Camps.

SANParks is relocating campers from high-risk areas though caravan and motorhome users will remain within camps, moved closer to chalet zones rather than into buildings.
