The City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Management has urged residents to use caution on the roads on Monday. This comes after the South African Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for most parts of the city.
Johannesburg EMS Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says, “Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving, to extend a safe following distance and try and avoid crossing areas or roads which may be flooded, especially low laying bridges. Our residents in low lying areas (are advised) to avoid crossing while conducting their daily activities. From our side as the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, we remain on high alert monitoring all regions of the city, together with our specialised unit, the Aquatic Rescue Unit, which is a unit that responds to water-related emergencies.”
The same warning was also issued last night during heavy rains in parts of the city.
