Drops of water running from a tap.
At least eight clinics in the West Rand District in Gauteng are experiencing low to no water supply following a major waterpipe burst on Rand Water’s pipeline in Soweto.
Leratong Regional Hospital and Dr Yusuf Dadoo District Hospital are also affected.
In Johannesburg, several public health facilities such as Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Braamfischer and Princess Clinics are impacted as well.
Gauteng Health Department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says, “What we do know is that we have got some clinics and some hospitals that are impacted in the West Rand District and also in the Johannesburg District. We have already activated contingency measures to ensure that private water tankers can be dispatched to the affected facilities as quickly as possible.”
“We are also reaching out to the local authorities so that they can prioritize health facilities and assist with dispatching water tankers.”
