The Steve Biko, Thabo Mbeki, Chief Albert Luthuli, Desmond and Leah Tutu, Oliver and Adelaide and FW de Klerk Foundations have announced that they are withdrawing from the organising team of the President’s upcoming National Dialogue, which includes the National Convention.
In a statement released on Friday, the withdrawal is due to their belief that core principles meant to underpin the whole National Dialogue have been violated in the rush to host a gathering on 15 August.
The Foundation says the National Dialogue must be credible, principled, and anchored in public trust and be inclusive.
But they say they still wish to participate in the National Dialogue.
Earlier this week, ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa touched on the issue of the National Dialogue and how it aims to promote South Africa’s shared vision, and how it is a step to taking the country forward.
He also mentioned how the Eminent Persons Group has contributed positively to the National Dialogue.
