Cape Town police have arrested multiple suspects this week for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, including a teenager and several adults.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk confirmed that a 17-year-old was apprehended in Browns Farm, Philippi, after allegedly pointing a firearm at a member of the public.
Van Wyk says, “The victim stopped officers who were patrolling the area and gave them a description of the suspect.”
The teenager was arrested, and a revolver without a serial number, along with ammunition, was found in his possession.
In a separate incident, an 18-year-old man was arrested in Lotus River for possessing a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Van Wyk also reported the arrest of a 43-year-old man in Epping Forest for possession of an imitation firearm.
In Lavender Hill, a 34-year-old man was assaulted by community members after allegedly discharging a firearm in public. “Police had to intervene when members of the community took the matter into their own hands,” Van Wyk said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment and remains in custody. He will appear in court once charged.
