Seventeen injured in KZN head-on collision

Seventeen people have been injured in a head-on collision between a taxi and a car outside Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal.

The vehicles also hit a group of children who were walking by the side of the road.

KwaZulu-Natal Private Ambulance Service Spokesperson, Craig Botha, says the crash took place on the M70 in the Embundweni area. He says three of the patients are in a serious condition.

“At approximately 13:00, emergency dispatchers received reports of a severe motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, first responders were met with a chaotic scene involving a Toyota Quantum minibus and a hatchback passenger vehicle. The force of the head on collision left both vehicles with extensive structural damage, showing the terrifying nature of the crash. Paramedics immediately initiated a mass casualty triage to manage the high volume of patients.”

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
