Seven suspects nabbed for Philippi East mass shooting

Seven suspects have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing of seven men in Philippi East on the Cape Flats.

The mass shooting incident happened at the Better Life informal settlement last Friday.

Western Cape Police Spokesperson André Traut says the suspects, aged between 16 and 22, were arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning following an extensive intelligence driven operation.

He says the suspects are facing charges of murder and will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Meanwhile, Gauteng Premier Panyaza says the Westbury shooting incident that claimed the lives of two teenagers on Tuesday demonstrates the need to tackle the availability of guns.

Police say no arrests have been in relation to the incident; however, they reportedly know who they are looking for.

Two teenagers were killed and five others wounded after gunmen opened fire on a group standing outside a house.
