Seriti Power Group donates five ECD centres in Mpumalanga

The Seriti Power group has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the lives of the communities it operates in. Today, the company, through its community trust, handed over five newly-constructed Early Childhood Development centres in Mpumalanga.

The centres were donated to communities within the Emalahleni and Lekwa municipalities.

Approximately R20 million was spent on the construction of these centres, which includes two located in the Free State.

Seriti Power Spokesperson, Thabo Masike, says beneficiaries of these centres previously attended classes in makeshift structures.

“You would understand when there are shacks, when the weather is not favourable, when it’s cold, they’ve got to be pumping or burning gas heaters for our kids to be warm. When it is raining, some of these shacks were leaking, water running through into the carpets where the kids are supposed to be staying. Anytime the kids wouldn’t be allowed to go to school because of these conditions,” says Mashike.
