Senzo Meyiwa murder trial continues

The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is expected to resume today at the High Court in Pretoria.

Five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the football star.

Defence lawyer for accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, has tried to poke some holes in the testimony of lead investigator, Brigadier Bongani Gininda.

Sibiya has denied pointing out the Senzo Meyiwa crime scene. He insists he was repeatedly assaulted by police officers at various locations following his arrest in May 2020.

Sibiya’s lawyer, Charles Mnisi, asked Gininda if he thought it was possible that the car transporting Sibiya from Pretoria to Alberton would have taken four hours to travel just 71 kilometres.

Gininda had this to say: “My Lord, it is two-fold. The first part is no. If the distance that I’m given is accurate, whether it is possible for a person to take this distance, I can’t say it’s not possible because the person who is traveling would be the one who would know what the distraction from point A to point B would have been.”
