Senior SANDF officer faces R1.5m corruption charges

South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Brigadier-General Prince Mkhabela, his secretary and his lawyer have appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on corruption charges involving R1.5 million.

Mkhabela, Thembi Hlungwani and Athinandavha Mulaudzi also face a charge of defeating the administration of justice. It is alleged that they facilitated and paid half a million rand to an investigating officer probing a case of intimidation against Mkhabela to stop the case from proceeding to court. The National Prosecuting Authority  (NPA) says Mkhabela met the investigating officer and allegedly paid him R50 thousand  as a deposit.

NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says Mkhabela was arrested and his two co-accused handed themselves over to authorities.

“The secretary and the legal representative were each granted bail of R5 000. The matter was postponed to the 23rd of February 2026 for bail judgment in respect of the Brigadier General.”
