A security guard has been arrested for shooting to death a man during the eviction of suspected illegal land invaders in the Juju Valley informal settlement in Seshego near Polokwane, Limpopo, yesterday.
Two others were wounded.
Police Spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba says violence broke out when private security guards, municipal security and police were evicting suspected land invaders.
He says some people pelted the security with stones.
Mashaba says the arrested security guard will face a charge of murder when he appears in court.
He says, “During an eviction operation conducted by security officers, violence allegedly erupted when occupants reportedly began attacking security officers with stones, resulting in the damage of a TLB (Tractor Loader Backhoe), vehicle amid the chaos, a shot was fired, resulting in the fatal wounding of a 63-year-old man.”
Mashaba says, “The police confiscated four licensed firearms belonging to the security company for ballistic analysis. The suspect is expected to appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court soon facing a charge of murder.”
