Second suspect arrested in Pienaar tavern killing

Mpumalanga police have arrested a second suspect in connection with the killing of eight people at a local tavern in Pienaar, outside Mbombela.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning when six people were shot and declared dead at the scene. Six others were rushed to hospital while two of the victims succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

Meanwhile, the first suspect, Patrick Bongani Nkosi who was arrested on Sunday briefly appeared at the Kabokweni Magistrates on Monday.

Mpumalanga Provincial Police spokesperson Jabu Ndubane says the 43-year-old suspect was arrested in Pienaar.

“During his arrest, police confiscated pistols with no ammunition. The suspect will appear in court soon. The acting provincial commissioner in Mpumalanga Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi is delighted with this breakthrough. He praised the investigating team for their commitment.”
