Gauteng Traffic Police have called on public transport operators to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before taking learners to school.

Traffic Police spokesperson, Sello Maremane says operators should exercise extreme caution on roads which may still be wet and slippery due to heavy rainfall. He says all motorists should make safety their priority.

“There is also an illegal and unsafe tendency by some drivers during this time of the year of overloading school children. The use of light delivery vehicle to undertake public transport is also prohibited by law. We will be conducting enforcement operations throughout the province to ensure that the learners are conveyed in a safe and legal manner.”
